Photogrammetry (a type of 3D scanning) is used to capture multiple angles of an existing sculpture/maquette which I can then reconstruct and tidy up on the computer to producing a digital 3D model.
The model can then be used in multiple ways:
- Creating visualisations of the sculpture in it's proposed position, scaled up to the intended final size (examples in the 'Visualisations' section of this website).
- To create a physical version in any size using robotic carving of high density foam from which a bronze foundry can take a cast.
- As a way of recording work in digital form for a virtual gallery/archive.
- Allows experimenting with different surfaces/finishes before committing to the actual sculpture.
- Creating multiples using 3D printing. Some 3D printing techniques can produce some beautiful and substantial table sculptures or 3D wall art.
